Agartala, 2nd November 2025 :  In a significant political development ahead of Tripura’s upcoming civic and assembly elections, 84 voters from 28 families formally joined the Indian National Congress, leaving behind the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its ally IPFT and the opposition CPIM. The mass induction took place on November 1 at 6 PM during a grassroots Congress gathering held at Booth No. 49 in the tribal-dominated Kaskau Para area under the Panisagar assembly constituency.

The event comes amid rising political tensions across the state, marked by land disputes and escalating confrontations between ruling and opposition camps. With the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections on the horizon and municipal and autonomous district council polls expected earlier, the political temperature has already begun to surge.

Congress leaders including Panisagar Block Congress President Sukhendu Bhattacharjee, Town Committee leader Ganga Nath, Block Vice President Amzad Hossain, Pradesh Congress delegate Bijan Malakar, Youth Congress Vice President Sukanta Nath, Minority Congress Vice Chairman Helal Uddin, and Block Committee member Ali Hossain welcomed the new members by handing over party flags and pledging support.

The newly inducted members cited their alignment with Congress’s ideology as the driving force behind their decision. They expressed their commitment to strengthening the party’s political fight in the coming days and vowed to uphold its discipline and principles.
