Internal rift surfaces in BJP over alleged defamation of Corporator Pradip Chanda

Agartala, 2nd November 2025 :  Tensions have escalated within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 6-Agartala assembly constituency following allegations that a faction of party members attempted to defame Ward No. 13 Corporator Pradip Chanda.

Local sources informed that the controversy erupted when certain BJP members allegedly orchestrated a smear campaign against Chandra, accusing him of misconduct. However, residents of Harijan Colony in Ward No. 13 have come forward to refute the claims, asserting that the corporator has been actively engaged in developmental work across the area.

A woman reportedly used in the staged incident has since confessed, revealing that the narrative was fabricated. Her admission has prompted other locals to speak out, condemning the actions of those involved and demanding disciplinary measures against individuals engaged in anti-party activities.

Community members allege that the motive behind the defamation was rooted in jealousy over Chanda’s popularity and hands-on approach to civic issues. “He works tirelessly for the people, and that doesn’t sit well with some,” said one resident.

The episode has reignited debates over factionalism within political parties and the impact of internal rivalries on public service delivery. Local leaders have urged the party to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to preserve organizational integrity.
