Agartala, September 14: Union Minister Kaushal Kishore visited Santirbazar city on Thursday to interact with the members of various self-help groups (SHGs) under the Santirbazar Municipal Council. He also visited the Vending Zone constructed by the council and had ‘Pani-Puri’ with the traders.
The minister attended a discussion meeting at the Santirbazar Mukutdhara auditorium, where he listened to the experiences and challenges of the SHG members. The members shared how they have been able to support their families and contribute to the local economy through their group activities. They also expressed their expectations and suggestions for the government’s support and facilities.
The minister appreciated the efforts and achievements of the SHGs and assured them of the central government’s assistance. He highlighted various development programs and schemes of the government, such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, and others. He urged the SHG members to avail of these benefits and spread awareness among others.
The meeting was also attended by Minister Shuklacharan Noyatia, MLA Pramod Riang, District Magistrate Saju Wahid A, Santirbazar SDM Abedananda Baidya, Santirbazar Municipal Council Chairman Sapna Baidya, Vice-Chairman Satyabrata Saha, Councilor Shyamalal Debnath and others.
After the meeting, the minister visited the Vending Zone near the Shantir Bazar New Petrol Pump and spoke to the traders who were present there. He praised the initiative of the council to provide a designated space for street vendors and encouraged them to continue their business with hygiene and quality. He also enjoyed ‘Pani-Puri’ with everyone and expressed his satisfaction with the taste.
The minister later addressed the press and said that he was happy to see the progress and development of Santirbazar city. He said that he would convey the feedback and demands of the SHG members and traders to the central government and work towards fulfilling them. He thanked the people of Santirbazar for their hospitality and cooperation.
