Agartala, 29th April 2025: For the past three days, residents of a village near Gokulnagar Bazar in Fatikroy have been grappling with severe power outages, which disrupted daily life and caused mounting frustration. Despite repeatedly alerting the concerned department about the issue, no concrete measures were taken to address the crisis, pushing locals to resort to drastic action.
In a bid to voice their grievances, residents blocked the alternative National Highway 208 at Ganganagar Main Road this morning. The protest quickly brought traffic on the busy route to a standstill, as vehicles queued up in both directions.
“We had no choice. It’s been three days, and there’s no electricity. This is not just about inconvenience—it’s about survival. The power outage has cut off our water supply as well, leaving us without basic necessities,” said one of the protesters, articulating the collective frustration of the community.
Another local resident remarked, “We’ve repeatedly reached out to the authorities, but nothing was done. If we remain silent, who will listen to us?”
As news of the blockade spread, high-ranking officials from the administration rushed to the scene to mediate and restore order. In a statement to the press, one of the officials expressed understanding of the situation, saying, “We are aware of the problems being faced by the residents and are committed to resolving the issue promptly. Necessary steps are being taken to address the power supply problem.”
After lengthy discussions and assurances from the administration to resolve the power issue swiftly, the residents agreed to lift the blockade, allowing traffic to resume on the highway.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by rural communities, where infrastructural issues such as inconsistent electricity supply continue to affect the quality of life. Authorities are now under pressure to ensure a permanent solution to avoid a recurrence of such incidents.
