Agartala, 6th April 2026: Frustration is mounting among residents of Madhupur as a vital road leading from the local police station remains in a state of collapse for nearly two years. Despite repeated appeals, neither the local panchayat nor the area’s legislator has taken action, forcing villagers to step in themselves.
The road, used daily by hundreds of commuters, motorbikes, and cars, has been rendered almost impassable. Heavy rains left it broken and waterlogged, making even walking across dangerous. Recently, two residents suffered broken legs after falling into potholes.
When villagers confronted a ruling BJP panchayat member, they were met with dismissive remarks: “Bad roads are not my concern. I don’t have time to meet you.” The official reportedly went further, warning locals against filling potholes with soil and demanding that any such material be removed immediately.
Angered by the neglect, residents have begun collecting funds to repair the road themselves. Their anger is directed not only at the panchayat member but also at the local legislator, who they accuse of ignoring repeated complaints. Promises of repair have dragged on for two years without progress.
Community members say their collective action is born out of desperation, but they also hint at political consequences. Many villagers believe the ballot box may be the only way left to hold their representatives accountable.
