Agartala, 31st March 2026: The special “Vote from Home” facility for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and voters above 85 years of age began today in the 56-Dharmanagar assembly constituency ahead of the upcoming bye-election.
The process started on March 31 and will continue until April 2, as election officials visit the homes of eligible voters to collect their ballots following the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
According to official data from the constituency, a total of 185 voters are eligible for this facility. Among them, 116 are senior citizens above 85 years and 69 are PwD voters. The special arrangement has been made to ensure that people who are unable to reach polling stations due to age or physical difficulties can still participate in the democratic process.
From this morning, teams of election officials began visiting voters’ homes carrying ballot boxes under tight security arrangements. The voting is being conducted inside the homes while maintaining strict secrecy of the ballot.
To ensure transparency, the entire process is videographed and conducted in the presence of representatives from different political parties.
The administration plans to complete the collection of votes from all eligible voters within the scheduled three-day period. Many elderly and physically challenged voters have welcomed the initiative, saying it has made it easier for them to take part in the “festival of democracy.”
