Wave of bike thefts in Udaipur subdivision: Police arrest four suspects

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 3rd January 2026:   For residents of Udaipur subdivision, bike thefts had become an almost daily reality throughout 2025. Night after night, one incident followed another, leaving ordinary people living in fear. Complaints mounted against the police, who were accused of failing to deliver any major breakthrough despite repeated promises.

Scenes of bikes vanishing overnight from outside homes became routine. Many victims, desperate to recover their stolen vehicles, returned from police stations disappointed and empty-handed.

But on the third day of the new year, hope arrived. Acting on a tip-off, Radha Kishorepur police launched a planned operation and arrested four alleged members of a theft gang. The arrests were confirmed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debanjali Roy, who told reporters that the gang had been under surveillance for some time. “We laid the trap at the right moment and successfully detained them,” she said.

The arrestees are- Kala Mia (38), Idris Mia (42), Kajol Barua (30) and Bappi Sarkar (31).

Police sources revealed that Kalamia, Idris, and Kajol were apprehended from Maynama area in Sonamura, while Bappi Sarkar was arrested from Udaipur Agriculture Chowmuhani. One stolen bike was recovered during the operation. Investigators believe further questioning could lead to the recovery of several more vehicles stolen across the subdivision.

Despite the arrests, questions remain. The gang had allegedly stolen a bike belonging to a police officer, which has yet to be recovered. Residents argue that if police cannot retrieve their own vehicle, how can they assure recovery of bikes stolen from ordinary citizens?

This has sparked skepticism: will the investigation end with one recovered bike and a photo opportunity, or will more shocking details emerge, leading to the return of multiple stolen vehicles?

For now, Udaipur’s residents are watching closely. Whether this marks the beginning of a larger success story or merely a temporary relief remains to be seen. The demand from the public is clear: arrests alone are not enough — every stolen bike must be returned to its rightful owner.
