Agartala, 5th April 2026: Police in Agartala have busted a major theft gang operating in the city and its outskirts, arresting seven individuals, including a woman. The arrests were made by Agartala West Police Station following a burglary reported in the Ramnagar area.
SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy said that the incident took place on April 3 at a residence on Ramnagar No. 4 Road. The homeowner, Subhash Chakraborty, had gone out for an evening invitation. On returning around 9:30 p.m., he found the gate and door open, and found that miscreants had broken into the almirah, stealing gold ornaments, mobile phones, and cash.
Chakraborty lodged a written complaint with West Agartala Police Station, prompting the formation of a special investigation team. Acting on the complaint, police conducted raids and successfully apprehended seven suspects linked to the crime.
Recovered items include the stolen gold ornaments and other valuables. The accused have been booked under relevant sections and produced before the court, with police seeking three days’ remand for further interrogation. Investigators believe the gang may be connected to several other theft cases in the region, which could come to light during custodial questioning.
