Agartala, 25th June 2026: Frustrated by years of hardship caused by a dilapidated road, residents of West Pilak Namahpara and Tatipara under the Jolaibari Assembly constituency staged a protest on Thursday morning, blocking the Jolaibari–Belonia road to demand urgent repairs.
Locals allege that the main connecting road has remained in disrepair for nearly seven years, with conditions worsening during the monsoon season. The poor state of the road has severely disrupted daily life, making commuting difficult for students, patients, and working professionals.
Residents said they had expected development after the 2023 Assembly elections, but despite repeated appeals to public representatives and the administration, no permanent solution has been provided. “We are compelled to resort to agitation because our daily lives are being disrupted,” one protester remarked.
Upon receiving information, Nababrata Dutta, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Jolaibari Block, arrived at the protest site. He assured the demonstrators that steps would be taken promptly to repair the road. Following this assurance, the blockade was lifted.
However, locals remain skeptical, insisting that they want to see actual work begin immediately rather than hear “empty promises.” All eyes are now on the administration’s next move, as the people of West Pilak wait to see when repair work finally commences.
