Agartala, 15th May 2024:   A grieving widow has come forward with allegations of extortion against an employee named Bijoy Karmakar of GBP Hospital here. The widow, whose husband Rubel Ahmed tragically passed away after consuming poison, claims that Karmakar demanded money under the guise of assisting with the post-mortem examination.

“Amidst my sorrow, I was approached by Bijoy Karmakar who insisted on a payment of Rs 1000 for his help with the post-mortem procedures,” the widow stated. “Given my financial constraints, I could only afford to give him Rs 500, which he accepted and then vanished.”

Sources said that the incident raises serious concerns, as this is not the first allegation against Karmakar. He has previously been accused of removing a ring from the hand of a deceased woman. Despite these grave accusations, the hospital authorities have yet to take any disciplinary action.

The widow’s plight has shed light on the need for stringent measures to protect the rights and dignity of patients and their families in medical institutions.
