Agartala, 4th March 2024:  In a terrifying incident, a wild elephant wreaked havoc on a marriage house in the Krishnapur assembly area, breaking down gates, destroying decorations, and causing the death of domestic poultry and cows. This marks yet another episode in a series of wild elephant attacks that have plagued the region for years.

The attack occurred around 4 o’clock on Monday morning at the residence of Pradip Bhowmik, leaving the family devastated as preparations for a wedding were in full swing. The marauding elephants, known to be part of organized gangs, also targeted cattle in search of paddy, intensifying the plight of the affected villagers.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Teliamura Forest Department’s rangers and staff swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the damage. Locals, however, expressed frustration, claiming that this particular group of elephants had been responsible for multiple attacks in the past.

Residents, disillusioned by previous assurances from administrative staff that failed to yield lasting solutions, took matters into their own hands. They blocked roads, demanding a permanent resolution to the persistent issue of wild elephant attacks.

The Sub-Divisional Forest Officer, officials from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tehsil Dar, and others rushed to the location in response to the escalating situation. Forest department officials pledged to implement nightly patrols to address the immediate threat. In exchange for these assurances, residents agreed to lift the road blockade.

As discussions unfolded, residents received a commitment that compensation for the damages incurred during the recent rampage would be settled within the next week. While the immediate crisis has been averted, the incident has reignited the call for a comprehensive and lasting solution to the longstanding issue of wild elephant attacks in Krishnapur.
