Woman critically injured in alleged murder attempt in Sepahijala; Accused arrested

Agartala, 28th July 2026 :  A 45-year-old woman was critically injured after she was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by unidentified assailants at her residence in the remote Vijay Nandi Malsom Para of Ujan Pakhariaghat village under Jampuijala block in Sepahijala district late Monday night.

The victim, identified as Aidishwari Malsom, who lives alone after the death of her husband while her son works in Bengaluru, sustained multiple injuries in the attack. According to locals, around three persons entered her house at around 11 pm and assaulted her with a dagger before fleeing. Hearing her screams, villagers rushed to the spot and shifted her to Bishramganj Hospital, from where she was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment.

Doctors at GB Hospital said the woman suffered multiple sharp weapon injuries on her hand, chest and head. Medical examinations revealed a fracture in one hand and blood in the chest, though no major head injury was detected. She remains under treatment and is conscious.

Police reached the spot on Tuesday morning and launched an investigation. Officials said one accused, identified as Dhanya Mohan Jamatia of Killa, has been arrested. The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is underway.
