Woman Dies at GB Hospital, Family Alleges Medical Negligence

Date:

Agartala, 2nd September 2026 :  A young homemaker died at the GBP Hospital in Agartala, with her family alleging negligence on the part of the attending doctors.

The deceased, identified as Monti Bhowmik, was a resident of Gandhigram, while her in-laws’ home is in the Tepania area of Udaipur. According to her family, Monti was initially admitted to a hospital in Udaipur after developing fever. Her condition later deteriorated as she developed respiratory complications.

Seeking better treatment, her family brought her to the GB Hospital in Agartala. However, she died during treatment at the hospital.

Her husband, Bidhu Barman, was seen breaking down in tears after losing his wife. Family members alleged that the patient’s condition required timely intervention and claimed that she might have survived if she had been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the appropriate time.

The family alleged that despite her deteriorating condition, the attending doctor did not shift her to the ICU in time. They have raised questions over the quality of medical services at the hospital and demanded accountability.

The incident has once again brought the functioning of the state’s premier government hospital under scrutiny. While the state government has been taking steps to upgrade and modernise GB Hospital, allegations of negligence and inadequate medical response continue to raise concerns among patients and their families.

Following the death, one of the deceased woman’s relatives reportedly confronted and verbally abused the attending doctor. The emotional outburst came amid the family’s grief over the loss of their loved one.

The allegations of medical negligence have not yet been independently established, and the hospital authorities’ response to the family’s claims is awaited.
