Agartala, November 13: A woman was allegedly molested and assaulted by a group of goons in Subhash Nagar area of Pratapgarh assembly constituency last night, when she was returning home from her relative’s house. The woman raised an alarm and the neighbours came to her rescue, but the goons also attacked them and the woman’s family members. They also threatened to kill them and set their house on fire.
The woman and the injured were taken to GB Hospital by the police, who reached the spot after getting the information. The woman filed a complaint at the East Agartala Women’s Police Station on Monday, naming Suman Das, Subhankar Debnath and their accomplices as the accused.
The family of the victim also staged a protest in front of the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday afternoon, demanding justice and action against the culprits. They alleged that the goons were politically motivated and had a grudge against them, as one of them was a former booth president of a political party. They also claimed that the goons had harassed them earlier as well.
The police said that they have registered a case of molestation, assault and criminal intimidation against the accused and are conducting raids to nab them. They also assured the family of the victim that they will not spare anyone who is involved in the crime and will ensure their safety.
The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation among the people, who have questioned the law and order situation in the state. They have also expressed their solidarity with the woman and her family and urged the authorities to take swift and stern action against the perpetrators.
