Agartala, 18th September 2026 : A woman was allegedly robbed of a gold chain worth around Rs 1.20 lakh in the Jugalkishore Nagar area under Srinagar Police Station on Thursday morning.
According to the complaint, Subhadra Debbarma wife of Subrata Debbarma, was on her way to work under the MGNREGA scheme when two unidentified men riding a motorcycle approached her from behind near the local Gram Panchayat office.
The suspects allegedly snatched the gold chain from her neck before speeding away from the area. One of the accused was reportedly wearing a helmet. Hearing the woman’s cries, local residents rushed to the spot and attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the suspects managed to escape.
Following the incident, information was conveyed to Srinagar Police. A police team reached the area and examined the spot. Investigators also collected CCTV footage from the vicinity of the Jugalkishore Nagar Gram Panchayat office in an effort to identify the accused.
Police have launched an investigation and are examining the available CCTV footage to trace the motorcycle and apprehend those involved in the alleged chain-snatching.
On Friday, Subhadra Debbarma and her husband visited Srinagar Police Station and urged the police to arrest the accused at the earliest and recover the stolen gold chain.
