Agartala, 25th September 2025:   In a bold move against illegal liquor trade, a group of women from South Hurua Gram Panchayat’s Ward No. 2 took to the streets today around 1 PM demanding an end to the rampant alcohol business allegedly run by local resident Balai Dhar.

Residents informed that Dhar has been operating an illicit trade in both country-made and foreign liquor from his home for years. Locals claim the unchecked sale of alcohol has led to widespread social decay, including youth addiction, domestic unrest and the breakdown of marital relationships.

Despite repeated warnings from the community, Dhar reportedly continued his operations, prompting the women to organize a collective protest. During the demonstration, members of the women’s brigade recovered empty bottles and several containers of country liquor from Dhar’s residence. Tensions escalated when Dhar allegedly assaulted one of the protesting women.

Police from Dharmanagar station arrived swiftly at the scene, bringing the situation under control and restoring order. Residents further alleged that young men addicted to alcohol were selling household valuables to fund their habits, plunging families into financial distress.

“We want this illegal liquor trade to be shut down completely. If it continues, our children will have no future,” said one of the protesting women.
