Workshop held at Tepania BDO office to strengthen women’s SHGs

Date:

Agartala, 8th August 2026 : A one-day workshop aimed at empowering women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and strengthening grassroots implementation of government initiatives was organised at the Tepania Block Development Office under the initiative of the Block Development Officer (BDO), with support from the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM).

Members of various SHGs, along with representatives of local panchayats, attended the workshop. The programme was formally inaugurated by lighting a ceremonial lamp by Tepania BDO Arjun Debnath in the presence of the Chairperson of Tepania Panchayat Samiti, Gram Panchayat Pradhans and Upa-Pradhans, and SHG members.

Addressing the gathering, BDO Arjun Debnath said the workshop was primarily aimed at empowering women members of SHGs so that they could improve their living standards and play a greater role in the development and success of their respective Gram Panchayats.

He said both the Central and state governments have been undertaking various initiatives to strengthen SHGs and promote the economic self-reliance of women. He stressed the need to take these initiatives to the grassroots and ensure that eligible beneficiaries are able to access the benefits of government schemes.

Debnath also highlighted the important role of ASHA workers in improving community health. He said ASHA workers play a vital role in ensuring proper nutrition and healthcare for pregnant women and children, besides helping elderly people access various government welfare schemes so that they can lead healthier lives.

The workshop also emphasised greater coordination among panchayat representatives, SHGs and frontline workers. Gram Panchayat Pradhans and Upa-Pradhans were urged to actively participate in similar programmes in the future and help disseminate information about government schemes and development initiatives among people at the grassroots level.

The organisers said such workshops would help strengthen community participation, improve awareness of welfare programmes and promote greater economic independence among rural women.
