Agartala, 10th September 2026 : World Suicide Prevention Day was observed in Ambassa with an awareness programme focusing on mental health, suicide prevention and the importance of timely support for people facing emotional or psychological distress.
The programme was jointly organised by the National Health Mission (Tripura) and the National Mental Health Programme at the PRTI Conference Hall in Ambassa.
Among those present were Dr Trishna Debbarma, Psychiatrist at Dhalai District Hospital, Dr Marjan Riang, and Rabindra Debnath, President of the Ambassa Market Committee, along with other dignitaries.
The programme highlighted this year’s theme, “Together for a Brighter Tomorrow: Prevent Suicide • Support Life,” stressing the collective responsibility of families, communities and institutions in promoting mental health awareness and preventing suicide.
Special emphasis was placed on the government’s Tele-MANAS helpline (14416), which provides accessible mental health support and counselling services.
Students from several schools and ASHA workers participated actively in the programme. A question-and-answer session and speech competition were also organised for students. Prizes were presented to the winners by the dignitaries at the conclusion of the event.
