Agartala, 22nd September 2026 : In a fresh development in a suspected narcotics case, the BSF detained Chiranjit Shil, alias Gedu, along with his associate Yasin Miah, allegedly with Yaba tablets in the Dhanpur area.
Gedu, who is reportedly known to be close to Dhanpur Mandal President Bipul Majumdar, has previously come under the scanner of law-enforcement agencies. Sources said the BSF had recovered a pistol from his residence last year in a separate incident.
According to local sources, Gedu was subsequently released at the time amid alleged pressure from influential quarters. He had also reportedly spent time in jail in connection with an NDPS case registered in 2023.
The latest incident occurred late on Monday night, when the BSF allegedly intercepted Gedu and Yasin with Yaba tablets. The two were later brought under the custody of Jatrapura Police Station.
Meanwhile, sources alleged that efforts were underway to secure Gedu’s release following his latest detention as well. However, the allegations regarding political or external pressure have not been officially confirmed by the police.
The police are expected to investigate the alleged possession of Yaba tablets and the circumstances surrounding the detention.
