Young man drowns in Manu river while bathing

Agartala, October 31:  A young man drowned in Manu river while bathing with his friend on Tuesday in Longtharai Valley sub-division. The deceased has been identified as Bipul Debbarma (26), resident of Jirania.

According to sources, Bipul had come to visit his brother’s house and went to bathe in the Manu river behind the Manu Hospital around 4 pm with his friend. He slipped and fell into the deep water and could not come out. His friend raised an alarm and informed the police and fire brigade of Manu police station.

The rescue team reached the spot and searched for Bipul’s body for a long time. They finally recovered his body from under the water some distance away from the spot. They brought his body to Manu Hospital for post-mortem.

The police suspect that Vipul and his friend had come to the secluded place behind the hospital to take drugs and that they might have been under the influence of drugs when they went to bathe in the river. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating further.
