Agartala, 21st September 2024: The Youth Tribal Federation (YTF), a prominent local youth organization of Tipra Motha Party (TMP) dedicated to advocating for tribal communities’ rights has issued an urgent appeal to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Agartala on Saturday concerning severe human rights abuses against indigenous and religious minorities in various regions across Bangladesh.
In their detailed plea, YTF highlights ongoing discrimination and violence faced by these vulnerable groups in areas such as Rangamati District—where incidents of land grabbing by majoritarian influences have been reported—and other parts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.
The federation calls upon authorities at all levels—from local governance structures to international bodies—to recognize these pressing issues as critical humanitarian concerns that require immediate attention. They urge swift action to ensure safety and security for affected communities while preserving their cultural heritage.
This appeal comes amidst reports of escalating tensions within these regions over land disputes exacerbated by political dynamics. YTF’s call for action underscores a growing need for dialogue among stakeholders aimed at fostering peace and reconciliation.
Meanwhile, TMP founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman in his social media post informed “In support of our indigenous brothers and sisters, Bengali Hindu, Chakma , Mog Buddhist and Christian Minorities of Bangladesh. Remember you will be judged for your intolerance one day – what you have done is a sin and you will have to suffer what you have inflicted on us. I also thank the Muslim community in Tripura who have come in large numbers to support us against what is happening in Bangladesh.”
