Agartala, 21st September 2024: The unemployment crisis in Tripura is deepening with each passing day, leaving many of the state’s job seekers adrift in their search for work. The situation has reached a critical point as government vacancies remain unfilled, exacerbating the problem for thousands of unemployed youth who are struggling to secure stable employment.
In response to this growing crisis, two prominent student-youth organizations, the Democratic Youth Federation (DYF) and the Tribal Youth Federation (TYF), took action today by submitting a deputation to the West Tripura District Magistrate. Their deputation highlighted a three-point demand aimed at addressing the worsening unemployment scenario in the state, calling for immediate and effective measures.
At the forefront of their demands is the urgent filling of government vacancies. Members of DYF and TYF expressed their frustration over the state government’s reluctance to fill up numerous vacant positions across various departments, which could otherwise alleviate some of the joblessness affecting the state’s youth. They emphasized the need for the government to expedite recruitment and address these long-standing vacancies.
A key issue raised by the organizations was the abolition of outsourcing in the recruitment process for government jobs. DYF and TYF criticized the state’s growing dependence on outsourcing recruitment, arguing that it undermines the prospects of permanent employment and leaves young workers in precarious, unstable job situations. They demanded that the government reinstate permanent jobs for its workforce and cease the practice of hiring through external agencies.
The third demand of the deputation called for greater transparency in the recruitment process. DYF and TYF leaders pointed out that the current hiring procedures lack clarity and accountability, which further aggravates the discontent among job seekers. The organizations urged the government to implement fair and transparent recruitment mechanisms to ensure that all candidates have an equal and unbiased opportunity to secure employment.
Speaking to reporters, a representative from the organizations said, “The government vacancies in Tripura should be filled up without delay. Outsourcing recruitment for government jobs must be stopped, and permanent jobs should be arranged for the youth of the state. It is also essential that the recruitment process is transparent and fair so that deserving candidates are not sidelined.”
With the youth unemployment rate in Tripura reaching alarming levels, the state government is now under increased pressure to respond to these demands. The DYF and TYF have vowed to intensify their agitation if their calls for action are not addressed promptly, further underscoring the urgency of the situation.
