Enforcement Directorate arrests TMC leader Kuntal Ghosh in teachers’ job scam case


The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday arrested Trinamool Congress leader Kuntal Ghosh in alleged West Bengal’s teachers’ recruitment scam after over 24 hours of search and interrogation at his city flats, official sources said.

He had been detained and finally arrested early today from his Chinar Park flat in New Town

in connection with the teachers recruitment case and non-cooperation in the probe, ” the ED sources


The arrest happened after the CBI interrogated TMC’s youth wing leader of Hooghly district

at its Nizam Palace office on Wednesday and Thursday and ED’s search of

over 24 hours of his two flats since around 0700 hours from Friday.

Sources said the ED officials, aided by the Central armed forces, has

taken Ghosh to its CGO Complex at Salt Lake for completion of other formalities before being produced for judicial process.

” Tapas Mondal has been conspiring with me,” Ghosh was heard saying

whilst he was taken to a waiting car on the way to the CGO Complex.

Ghosh has been accused of amassing funds of Rs 19.5 crore from the

job seekers between 2014-2021, as per another accused Tapan Mondal’s

statement to the CBI.

As per the CBI knowledge after being investigated following a Calcutta

High court order, over Rs 100 crore was allegedly raised by TMC leaders from job

aspirants to employ them as the teachers and staff at the government aided schools across the state.

Tapas Mondal, who was president of the association of Bengal’s

private-run colleges and institutions, had accused Kuntal Ghosh of

raising money from job seekers during his interrogation by the CBI.
