Former MP Vivek Venkataswamy resigns from BJP, joins Congress

Date:

In a major political development, former MP Vivek Venkataswamy on Wednesday announced his resignation from the BJP, a decision that has sent shockwaves through the party.

In his resignation letter, which he sent to Telangana BJP President G. Kishan Reddy and subsequently shared with the media, Vivek expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the support he had received during his tenure with the BJP.

Subsequently, Vivek officially joined the Congress in a ceremony held at a private hotel near Shamshabad airport, where he was welcomed by former AICC President Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President A. Revanth Reddy. Rahul Gandhi marked the occasion by draping a party scarf around Vivek Venkataswamy and his son, Vamshi.

Addressing the media during the event, A. Revanth Reddy emphasised Vivek Venkataswamy’s confidence in the Congress’s ability to challenge the ruling BRS party. He pointed out that the Congress has significantly bolstered its strength with Vivek Venkataswamy’s entry and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for November 30.

Vivek Venkataswamy criticised the BRS for failing to fulfill the aspirations of the Telangana people, alleging that the party’s actions were driven by the interests of KCR’s family. He stated that his decision to join the Congress was motivated by the desire to oust the BRS, emphasizing that the ticket was not a primary concern.
