NDA Vice Presidential candidate and former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday filed his nomination in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda and other leaders.
NDA leaders including PM, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others assembled briefly in Parliament’s library building ahead of the process to complete last minute formalities of nomination.
Jagdeep Dhankhar will contest against Opposition candidate Margaret Alva in the August 6 contest for the Vice President post.
The BJP surprised many political pundits on Saturday when the party chose Jagdeep Dhankhar as their Vice Presidential candidate. With considerable presence of Jats in Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the decision to nominate Jagdeep Dhankhar for Vice President may tilt BJP’s fortunes in Jatlands of these states in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission 2024.
Dhankhar, who is a lawyer by profession, has been in the headlines as West Bengal Governor for his tumultuous relations with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
