SC defers NEET hearing to July 18

Date:

The Supreme Court on Thursday deferred the hearing on pleas related to irregularities in the conduct of this year’s National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG to July 18 as some of the parties have not received the affidavits filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud directed the NTA and the Union government to submit comprehensive affidavits.

The CJI directed the NTA to make a full disclosure before the court… in three areas – the nature of the leak, places where the leak took place, and the time lag between the leak and the conduct of the exam.

On Wednesday, the Centre told the Supreme Court that the data analytics of the NEET-UG 2024 results found “no abnormality” and showed no indication of malpractice.

In its first hearing on July 8, the bench headed by the CJI asked about the actions the Centre and NTA took to identify the beneficiary students of the wrongdoing.

The CJI had said that the fact that the sanctity of the examination has been breached… compromised, is beyond doubt. “Now the question is how widespread is the breach,” CJI Chandrachud said while hearing petitions of those seeking and opposing cancellation of the May 5 NEET UG examination over paper leak allegations.

The matter will now come up for hearing on July 18.
