Agartala, 29th May 2025: In yet another incident highlighting the rising menace of thefts in North Tripura, a daring robbery shook residents of Phulbari Ward No. 4 under Churaibari police station today. Around 2:30 AM, a gang of miscreants broke into at least two houses in the area, looting valuables and cash worth several lakhs of rupees.
According to eyewitness accounts, the burglars broke through doors and windows to gain entry into the homes. At the residence of Bimal Das, father of Haribol Das, the gang created chaos, overturning belongings and ransacking cupboards. They fled with a gold chain, Rs 12,000 in cash kept under a pillow, and several personal accessories including a torch. Bimal’s wife, Reba Das, recounted that she was the first to notice the intruders and screamed, prompting the thieves to flee—but not before they had already looted the house.
The same group is suspected of targeting another house nearby—belonging to Pijush Das, son of late Shrikant Das—where they made away with Rs 15,000 in cash. Both families expressed distress and urged immediate intervention from the authorities.
Soon after being alerted, police personnel from Churaibari police station arrived at the scene and began initial investigations. Locals have lauded the prompt response by the police but are anxious for a lasting solution to the rising crime in the area.
“We are living in fear. The administration must act swiftly to nab the culprits and ensure our safety,” said Reba Das.
