AMC Mayor pulls up officials over slow progress of Prabhu Bari pond renovation, sets deadline

Date:

Agartala, 14th July 2026 : Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Tuesday expressed strong dissatisfaction over the slow pace of renovation work at the historic Prabhu Bari Pond and directed officials and engineers to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.

Inspecting the ongoing renovation work at the traditional pond in Agartala, the Mayor stressed that restoring the city’s heritage water bodies and enhancing their beauty remains one of the top priorities of the Municipal Corporation.

“The Agartala Municipal Corporation has taken a special initiative to renovate the traditional Prabhu Bari Pond at the earliest and restore its beauty. However, I am deeply dissatisfied with the slow progress of the work. I have instructed the officers and engineers present to ensure that the renovation is completed within the specified time frame,” Majumder said.

He reiterated that AMC is committed to preserving Agartala’s traditional ponds while transforming them into clean, attractive, and environment-friendly public spaces.

“The Municipal Corporation has undertaken a unique initiative to make Agartala more beautiful and environmentally friendly. For a long time, we have been working to revive abandoned and garbage-filled ponds scattered across the city and make them suitable for public use,” he added.

As part of this initiative, the Mayor also inspected the renovation work of the pond in the Madhyapara area, where he reviewed the progress on the ground and instructed the concerned contractors, engineers, and senior municipal officials to expedite the work without compromising quality.

The inspection was attended by Ward No. 20 Corporator Ratna Datta, senior AMC officials, engineers, and other prominent local residents. The Mayor emphasized that timely completion of such projects is essential for improving the city’s environment, conserving water bodies, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
