Agartala, 15th July 2025: In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Agartala, in coordination with the Agartala Railway Protection Force (RPF), arrested a female drug peddler and a human trafficker in two separate operations on Monday night.
According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, a woman identified as Juma Debbarma (26), a resident of Bishrampara, Tisama under Taidu in Gomati district, was detained at the Agartala Railway Station. During the search, officials recovered 21.605 kilograms of dry ganja, concealed in five packets inside a trolley bag.
During preliminary interrogation, Debbarma reportedly confessed that she was transporting the contraband to Karimganj in Assam, from where it was intended to be sent to Punjab. A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station.
Police sources estimate the seized ganja, which reportedly sells for around 35,000 per kilogram in Punjab, has a street value of approximately 7.5 lakh. In a separate operation conducted the same night, the GRP, with assistance from the Border Security Force (BSF) and Bamutia Outpost Police, apprehended a suspected human trafficker identified as Kamal Das (43), a resident of Bugjur village under Lefunga Police Station in West Tripura district.
Das is accused of involvement in an active human trafficking network. A special investigation team is currently interrogating him, and officials suspect that more individuals from the same region may be involved.Both the accused will be produced before the court today, with police seeking remand for further investigation.
