Agartala, 30th July 2025:   Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das today inaugurated a fishling release programme at a major water body in Jagannathpur under the Fatikroy assembly constituency.

The event was organised by the Fisheries department. It is part of the state government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable aquaculture and reduce dependence on fish imports from other states.

Speaking at the programme, Minister Das said, “The goal is to transform large water bodies into productive reservoirs for aquaculture, ensuring both food security and livelihood generation for local communities.” He underlined the urgent need for Tripura to achieve self-sufficiency in fish production.

Highlighting the government’s vision, the Minister added that scientific fish farming practices, coupled with department-supported schemes, can empower rural fish farmers and eventually enable the state to export fish to other parts of the country.

“This initiative is not just about boosting production; it’s about sustainable development and economic upliftment of our rural population,” Das noted. He encouraged farmers to actively participate in the schemes offered by the department to maximize output and income.
