Agartala, 17th August 2025: Serious questions have surfaced over the recent recruitment of government doctors in Tripura, where candidates allegedly secured appointment despite scoring as low as 14 out of 100 marks.
Reacting to the controversy, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that while the appointment of doctors after a long gap is a welcome move, compromising on quality could have “dangerous consequences.”
“It is certainly good that doctors are being appointed in the medical sector after so long. However, if the appointment is made without judging the quality of the doctor, it can be counterproductive. It is very important for a doctor to have general knowledge. If the basic knowledge of medical science is not complete, the patient’s problems can increase further,” Sarkar remarked.
The senior CPI(M) leader expressed concern that if appointments are made on the basis of candidates scoring only 14 out of 100 marks, it would be “risky to hand over important responsibilities” to them. He urged the state government to review the current recruitment policy and put patients’ safety first.
The development has sparked fresh concerns about the quality of healthcare services in Tripura, with many questioning whether such a system could undermine public trust in the state’s health infrastructure.
