Agartala, 22nd August 2025: The Tripura State Committee of the Forum of Civil Pensioners’ Association will hold a convention on the Pensioners’ Validation Act on August 24 at 11 a.m. The event will take place at the Tripura Students’ Health Home auditorium, with former Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, Hon’ble Justice Subhasis Talapatra, attending as chief guest and keynote speaker.
The convention is part of a nationwide initiative by the Forum’s central committee, which has called for similar gatherings across all states between August 24 and 28. The move follows a joint human chain protest held on July 25 by pensioners from various central government bodies, including autonomous institutions, acquired organizations, and public sector units such as BSNL.
At the heart of the unrest is the inclusion of a “validation clause” in the recent Union Budget, which pensioners allege creates a divisive framework between old and new retirees. The clause has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among central pensioners, who view it as discriminatory.
Adding to the frustration is the delay in forming the 8th Pay Commission, which was announced in January but remains unconstituted. The government has yet to clarify the commission’s terms of reference, leaving pensioners uncertain about future reforms.
Pensioners from BSNL and the Department of Telecommunications have also raised concerns over the lack of salary restructuring since 2017, resulting in stagnant financial conditions. Similar grievances have emerged from employees and retirees of banks, LIC, and EPFO.
The All India Forum of Civil Pensioners’ Association has demanded immediate redressal of these issues and warned that sustained protest actions will continue until their demands are met.
