BJP holds counter-rally at Udaipur amid Congress allegations of electoral fraud

Agartala, 29th August 2025:   A political war of words intensified in Udaipur subdivision of Gomati district as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a counter-rally in response to a Congress-led public meeting that accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of electoral malpractice.

The Congress rally held at Jamtala was led by Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha and senior party leader Sudip Roy Barman. Addressing the gathering, both leaders alleged that the Prime Minister had “stolen votes” to remain in power, accusing him of employing “deceptive tactics” to manipulate electoral outcomes.

In a swift rebuttal, BJP leaders convened their own rally at the same venue. Udaipur Matabari MLA Abhishek Debroy and Gomati district BJP president Sabita Nag condemned the Congress’s accusations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. Debroy cited a 1995 case filed in the Allahabad High Court, where a defeated Samajwadi Party candidate alleged that Congress leader Indira Gandhi had won through vote rigging arguing that Congress itself had a history of electoral misconduct.

Without naming Roy Barman directly, Debroy criticized the Congress leader and his father, accusing them of aiding CPIM victories for personal gain. He remarked, “Delhi was consumed by mother and son, and now Tripura is being devoured by father and son,” in a pointed jab at dynastic politics.

Debroy further claimed that the BJP would remain in power both at the state and national levels until 2087. He mocked Roy Barman as a “switch-off” politician, alleging that he had gone incommunicado for seven months following Congress’s defeat in the last assembly election.

The BJP MLA warned both CPIM and Congress against exploiting perceived weaknesses in the ruling party, cautioning that any excessive provocation could lead to “dire consequences.”

Local police and administrative officials maintained a strong presence at the BJP rally to ensure that tensions did not escalate beyond control.
