Agartala, 20th September 2025: Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and ruling MLA, Dipak Majumder, has urged the state government to set up an Astalaxmi Haat at the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP) to boost the state economy and promote North East’s cultural diversity.
Speaking in the Assembly, he noted that the ICP sees around 2,000 passengers daily from the neighboring country and hosts the joint retreat ceremony of the BSF and Bangladesh’s BGB, attracting many tourists.
“Facilities like a visitor gallery and cafeteria have already been developed. Setting up an Astalaxmi Haat will further showcase the region’s beauty and boost economic activity,” the Mayor said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on the North East provides an opportunity to explore such initiatives.
