Agartala, 4th October 2025 : The outsourced employees working at the Labour Department, an institution meant to safeguard workers’ rights have reportedly become victims of harassment and exploitation.
A female employee from a manpower services agency has alleged that women workers are facing sexual harassment from agency owners. The situation is further exacerbated by demands for commission from their already meager salaries, she claimed.
Those who refuse inappropriate advances are allegedly targeted by a mentally unstable security guard stationed at the department’s gate. According to multiple accounts, this guard has been obstructing employees from entering the government office and harassing them under the guise of security checks.
Media personnel attempting to report on the issue were also reportedly confronted by the same guard, who demanded press identification despite being unable to wear his own uniform properly. Even the agency’s supervisor was ignored, and reporters were denied the opportunity to speak or gather information.
The presence of such personnel in a critical government office has raised serious concerns about workplace safety and administrative oversight. Sources suggest that private agencies operating under the guise of outsourcing have entrenched themselves within government departments, contributing to a steady decline in the state’s work culture.
