The Power Minister shared this information after inaugurating the 132 KV Gokulnagar Sub-Station under the NER Power System Improvement Project at the Gokulnagar Rastarmatha Sports Ground.
The Minister said that a total of Rs 43.98 crore was spent on constructing the 132/33 KV sub-station. “In Tripura, we are producing power from gas. But gas is slowly depleting. Earlier, there were 7 lakh 21 thousand power consumers, and in the seven years of our present government, the number has increased to 10.38 lakh. As modernization advances, the demand for power also increases. We must move forward with modernization only then can we progress. Our government is moving towards modernization,” said the Power Minister.
The Minister informed that before the current government, there were 12 numbers of 132 KV sub-stations. Now there are 21, with work on 2 more underway. Earlier, there were 485 km of 132 KV lines, and in these seven years, it has increased to 986 km, with work for another 102 circuit km in progress.
Before 2018, there were 44 numbers of 33 KV sub-stations, and in the last seven years, 75 have been set up, with 18 more under construction. Earlier, there were only 95 km of underground cables, but in these seven years, 571 km have been laid and completed.

“As gas availability decreases, we are introducing new technologies. With the help of the World Bank, Rs 935 crore is being invested to double power generation using the same gas through combined cycle gas turbine technology in Rokhia. We have decided to set up an 800 MW pump storage project in Chawmanu, and the DPR work is underway. We will set up a 400 KV sub-station in Suryamani Nagar as we are already supplying power to Bangladesh. We also plan to export power to Nepal, and a meeting regarding this is being held in Delhi today. The central government will take the final decision. All government offices will be covered under rooftop solar,” the Minister added.
During the event, Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Datta, MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, Bishalgarh Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Atashi Das, Ranjan Debbarma (GM, TPTL), and others were present.
