Six local landowners protest ONGC over unpaid dues, threaten road blockade

Agartala, 25th October 2025:   Six landowners from Kamalasagar have accused the ONGC Drill Site R O-47 of fraud and prolonged non-payment of land rent, sparking a protest outside the facility on Saturday morning. The beneficiaries, who claim to have leased their land to ONGC in 2008 for the establishment of the drill site, allege they have not received rent payments since October 2022.

Despite repeated appeals to ONGC’s Asset Manager and the Land Acquisition Section, the group says their concerns have been ignored. The total outstanding dues reportedly amount to ₹30–35 lakh. The landowners Rabindra Chandra Dutta, Babul Dhar, Sanjit Roy, Sanjit Dhar, Gopal Dhar, and Pranatosh Sen allege they have faced years of harassment while trying to collect their annual payments, even though ONGC had provided written agreements at the time of land acquisition.

In a show of defiance, the six families, including both men and women, staged a sit-in protest at the Kamalasagar drill site, issuing a seven-day ultimatum to ONGC. They warned that if their dues are not cleared within the stipulated time, they will prevent the removal of any equipment from the site. The group also threatened to escalate the protest by blocking the main Agartala-Kamalasagar road.
