Agartala, 25th October 2025: Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder today visited the old Netaji Adarsha Shiksha Mandir premises at Masterpara to inspect the proposed site for a new water pump and treatment plant aimed at addressing the locality’s drinking water crisis.
Accompanied by AMC Commissioner Dilip Kumar Chakma, Central Zone Chairman Ratna Dutta, government officials, and local residents, Mayor Majumder reviewed the site layout and interacted with the community. He stated that the project, supported by the state government under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, seeks to ensure clean and safe drinking water for nearby households.
“The initiative is part of our continuous effort to eliminate water shortages in Agartala. The Chief Minister has been very supportive in strengthening urban infrastructure,” the Mayor said while speaking to reporters.
Addressing local concerns over preserving the open ground beside the school, Majumder assured that the green space would not be compromised. “There are about 16 ganda of land here. We’ll assess the required area for the plant and retain the rest as a playground for children,” he explained.
He further added that the matter would be discussed with the local MLA, who is also the Chief Minister, to strike a balance between development and community needs. “Clean water is essential, but so is a space for children to play. We will work to maintain both,” the Mayor emphasized.
The proposed plant, once completed, is expected to benefit nearly 2,000 to 2,500 residents in and around Masterpara, marking a significant step toward improving Agartala’s urban water supply network.
