Agartala, 1st November 2025: Maharaja Bir Bikram University celebrated its 10th Foundation Day today. On this occasion, a programme has been organized in the Dhalai Hall of Academic Block, MBBU. Professor Bibhas Deb, Vice-Chancellor, MBB University was the chief guest and inaugurator of the programme. Dr. Sumanta Chakrabarti, Registrar and Jyoti Prasad Debbarma, Controller of Examinations, MBBU were the other dignitaries in the programme. Nimai Chowdhury, an outreach worker of Tripura Aids Control Society (TSACS) had an interaction with students on Drug Addiction and its menace.
Dr. Runu Dhar, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics and Co-Ordinator of IQAC, in his Welcome Address gave a brief history of the establishment of the University and hoped for future expansion of the University in the coming years.
Jyoti Prasad Debbarma, Controller of Examinations, MBBU spoke about Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya’s dream of a holistic educational institution. He stated that the University should not only be a place for earning degrees but it must empower critical thinking among the students to be used for human welfare and MBB University is moving in this direction despite constraints.
Dr. Sumanta Chakrabarti, Registrar, MBBU also provided the historical insight on the establishment of MBB College as a Dream College of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya. The establishment of Maharaja Bir Bikram University is a step towards fulfilling of his dream. He also informed that a team of Experts from Higher Education, Government of Mizoram will visit MBB University to learn about its working and administration. He also emphasized that the University must inculcate on Knowledge and Wisdom among the students.
Professor Bibhas Deb, Vice Chancellor, MBBU thanked all the personalities who were closely associated with the University from its inception. He also emphasized on preparing a roadmap for the future endeavors of the University and wished to start at least ten more departments in the next ten years.
Nimai Chowdhury gave a testimony about his addiction with drugs and overcoming it. During his interaction with the students, he encouraged them to be humble and respectful to their parents and teachers, and to stay away from Drugs for building a healthy and harmonious social environment.
In today’s program the prizes for Essay Competition organized by the University to celebrate The National Unity Day was distributed. Soumyajyoti Roy. Bismita Dhar and Angshita Chowdhury, the students of the Department of Mathematics respectively won, First, Second and Third Prize. It was followed by a colourful cultural programme with active participation of students from various academic departments.
Dr. Anuj Kanchan Datta Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, delivered the vote of thanks and the entire programme was hosted by Dr. Debadatta Adak, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics.
