Agartala, 2nd November 2025 :  Authorities have denied permission to the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) for holding a mass rally at Vivekananda Ground in Agartala, citing serious safety and logistical concerns.

In an official communication addressed to Suraj Debbarma, a representative of the YTF, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Deba Prasad Roy stated that the rally cannot be permitted at the proposed venue due to the ongoing International Expo being held on the same ground. The event is reportedly drawing large crowds, including women, children, and international delegates.

“Half of the Vivekananda Ground is presently occupied by the ongoing International Expo. Conducting a mass rally simultaneously in the remaining portion of the ground may lead to serious congestion and the possibility of a stampede-like situation,” the letter notes.

The SDPO further mentioned that the Vivekananda Ground, located in the heart of Agartala, is surrounded by key city roads that serve as vital routes for hospital access and city traffic. A state-wide mass gathering at this location, officials warned, could cause severe traffic disruptions, inconvenience to the public, and possible obstruction to emergency services.

“You are therefore requested to refrain from organizing any rally or mass gathering at the said venue,” the officer stated, while offering the YTF the option to submit a fresh proposal suggesting an alternate venue or date for consideration.

The police department has emphasized that the decision was made keeping in mind the safety of citizens, the smooth conduct of the International Expo, and the overall maintenance of peace and public order in the city.

The Youth Tipra Federation has not yet issued an official response regarding the denial of permission or whether it plans to propose a new venue for the rally.
