Agartala, 19th November 2025: In a major step toward modernizing electricity services, the Agartala Circle No. 1 offices of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) officially switched from postpaid to prepaid smart meter systems today.
The new system was inaugurated at the NOMC room of TSECL’s corporate office by Managing Director Biswajit Basu, along with AGM Revenue Mita Saha, AGM DPNC Shishir Debbarma, AGM Agartala Circle No. 1 Pradip Sutradhar, AGM Circle No. 2 Bikram Debbarma, DGM DPNC Sandip Nandi Majumdar, and other senior officials.
Speaking at the launch, Managing Director Biswajit Basu emphasized that prepaid smart metering represents the future of electricity consumption. In the first phase, Circle No. 1 offices have transitioned to the prepaid system, and other circles, government establishments, and eventually all general consumers will be brought under the new facility.
Highlighting the consumer benefits, Basu said that prepaid smart meters offer complete transparency and give users full control over their electricity usage. Consumers will be able to check daily consumption, balance, and recharge requirements in real time. The system eliminates guesswork, reduces billing errors, and removes dependence on meter readers.
“Everything will be available on one app. Customers can recharge anytime—day or night. With usage data visible at all times, consumers will naturally become more aware and reduce unnecessary waste,” Basu added. He noted that better control over consumption would help households manage expenses and ultimately save money.
The introduction of prepaid smart meters is seen as not just a technological upgrade, but a consumer-centric move aimed at making daily life easier. With this launch in Agartala, TSECL has taken a significant step toward a future where power services are more accurate, more transparent, and firmly in the hands of consumers.
