Deadbody recovered from sandbank of Muhuri river

Agartala, 27th   November 2025:  Belonia Police Station staff received an information that parts of a human body were spotted beneath the sand on the banks of the Muhuri River this afternoon. Local residents had first noticed the remains and immediately alerted authorities.

Following the report, officers from Baikhora Police Station, Belonia Police Station and Santirbazar SDPO Bappi Debbarma rushed to the scene. A forensic team and dog squad were deployed, and the body was subsequently recovered from beneath the sand.

Police later confirmed that the deceased was Jain Chandra Uchhai (65), a resident of Sharatchandra Uchhai Para in Ratanpur ADC village. He had been missing since November 16.

Authorities stated that the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination. Speaking to the media personnel, SDPO Debbarma described the recovery as “unnatural” and assured that investigations are underway.

The recovery of the buried body has triggered widespread panic and fear among residents in the surrounding area.
