Agartala, 8th December 2025: Gaur Kumar Das of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been elected as the new Pradhan of Rajnagar Gram Panchayat under Kadamtala RD Block in North Tripura. The election was held today following the ouster of former Pradhan Ruby Rani Das of the CPI(M) in a no-confidence motion.
In the last panchayat polls, Rajnagar Gram Panchayat had returned two CPI(M), four Congress, and five BJP representatives. After the results, the panchayat came under the joint control of Congress and CPI(M). With the Pradhan’s post reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), CPI(M)’s Ruby Rani Das was elected Pradhan, while Congress leader Kabir Hossain became Upa-Pradhan.
However, Congress members later brought a no-confidence motion against Ruby Rani Das, submitting a complaint to the District Panchayat Office. On October 27, 2025, the motion was carried, and Das was defeated.
As per prior announcement, the fresh election for the Pradhan’s post was conducted today at noon in the Rajnagar Gram Panchayat office. All elected members from different parties were present. The proceedings were overseen by Panchayat Officer Kajal Das as presiding officer, with Narayan Debnath, BDO of Kalachhara RD Block, acting as observer.
Since the post is reserved for SC candidates, and Congress had no eligible member while CPI(M)’s Ruby Rani Das refrained from contesting, BJP nominee Gaur Kumar Das was elected unopposed. He was later administered the oath of office by presiding officer Kajal Das.
Following the announcement, BJP leaders, workers, and supporters celebrated with a victory procession in Rajnagar Bazaar. The rally was attended by Kadamtala–Kurti Mandal BJP president Bimal Purkayastha, Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti vice-chairman Vidya Bhushan Das, former chairman Subrata Deb, and North District BJP vice-president Karuna Nath, among other leaders.
