Agartala, 16th December 2025: Two Bangladeshi nationals were detained by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday morning during a routine checking operation at Udaipur Railway Station in Tripura’s Gomati district. The operation was conducted jointly by GRP personnel and the Border Security Force (BSF).
According to officials, the two men aroused suspicion after appearing nervous during questioning and providing inconsistent information about their identities. Following detailed interrogation, they confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally in search of employment.
The detainees have been identified as Md Ibrahim (34) and Shakib ul Hasan (18), both hailing from the Rajshahi district of Bangladesh.
Md Ibrahim told the police that he had entered Tripura nearly three months ago and had been working as a mason at various locations, including Charilam in Sepahijala district, Battala area in Agartala under West Tripura district, and Udaipur in Gomati district. He further claimed that he was on his way to Odisha for work when he was detained.
During interrogation, Shakib ul Hasan revealed that he had entered Tripura about one and a half years ago with the assistance of touts. He stated that he was travelling towards Chennai in search of job opportunities.
Police officials said that both individuals have been taken into custody for further investigation to determine the circumstances of their illegal entry, their movement within the country, and the possible involvement of agents or touts. Legal action is being initiated as per relevant laws.
