Agartala, 16th December 2025: Political tension erupted in the North Maharani area under the Kalyanpur–Pramodnagar assembly constituency last night following a protest march allegedly organized without police permission by the Tipra Motha youth wing, YTF.
It is reported that, during the demonstration, a section of protesters entered the under-construction residence of Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma in North Maharani.
Minister Debbarma alleged that the protesters forced construction workers to stop work, creating panic at the site. The situation became so tense that workers fled the premises. Later that night, around 9:30 p.m., a written complaint was lodged at Mungiakami police station. The FIR named several individuals, including Dilip Kumar Munda, Akash Debbarma, Anupish Debbarma, Khogen Debbarma, Shumir Debbarma, Prakash Debbarma and Amrit Debbarma.
At the time of filing the complaint, Minister Debbarma was accompanied by Tripura Pradesh Janajati Morcha General Secretary Swapan Reang, Khowai District Janajati Morcha President Biswajit Rupini, 29-Krishnapur Mandal Vice-President Gopal Das, along with other BJP leaders.
Speaking on the incident, Minister Debbarma said, “In a democratic system, everyone has the right to protest. But entering someone’s private property to stage a protest is never acceptable.” He further alleged that certain groups were deliberately spreading misinformation to disturb peace and harmony in the state.
He added, “Such incidents are being orchestrated to derail Tripura’s development. The idea of establishing monarchy within a democratic framework can never be acceptable.”
The incident has left the area under heightened tension. Police have confirmed that they are investigating the matter.
