Three Arrested in Prosenjit Sarkar Case; Public Demands Justice Continue in Tripura

Agartala, 18th December 2025:  Under mounting public pressure and widespread social media condemnation, Tripura police have arrested three of the five accused in the tragic death of delivery worker Prasenjit Sarkar. The arrests were made early Thursday morning near Sribhumi Railway Station in Assam.

Among those apprehended are two women, Sangeeta Bhattacharya and Sushmita Bhattacharya, along with youth Saurabh Bhattacharya, reportedly the main accused. They have been brought to Churaibari police station for further investigation.

North Tripura Superintendent of Police, Avinash Rai, confirmed that the arrests were made following a secret tip-off and that the police have been conducting a vigilant investigation since the case was registered. “We respect the public movement seeking justice, but some unscrupulous elements are attempting to misguide it. Obstructing police work or taking the law into one’s own hands only slows down the investigation,” he said.

The three arrested were later produced in court amid tight security and were sent to judicial custody until December 30, with the court directing police to continue interrogation in jail.

This case follows the shocking death of Prasenjit Sarkar, a delivery worker with Blue-Dart Courier Company, whose body was found hanging last Sunday in the Kameshwar area of Dharmanagar. According to police and eyewitness accounts, Prosenjit was allegedly subjected to mental and physical harassment by a group of customers over a parcel delivery dispute, which reportedly led to his death.

Following the incident, the Dharmanagar police registered a case against five individuals on December 14, sparking widespread protests and demonstrations across Tripura demanding strict punishment for the accused. Despite the arrests of three suspects, the remaining two are still at large, and protesters have emphasized that mere arrests will not suffice—they are demanding full justice, compensation, and government assistance for Prosenjit’s family, who have been left in dire circumstances as he was the sole breadwinner.
