Agartala, 12th January 2026 : Agitation erupted in Tripura’s Kailashahar Municipal Council area, Ward No. 9, when brick paving work began on an old road near the Manu Land Customs and alongside the Manu River, close to a cremation ground.
Local sources reported that the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) intervened in the construction work this morning.
According to sources, BGB personnel informed the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) that, under border regulations, no construction or paving activities are allowed within 150 yards of the international boundary. Following the warning, the contractor was forced to halt the work.
As laborers were removed from the site, the road construction came to a complete standstill, directly affecting the local community. Families attempting to bring deceased relatives to the cremation ground faced severe difficulties due to the halted access.
Contractor Abdul Mannan stated that although work had resumed today under administrative orders after being suspended for a long time, it was soon stopped due to the intervention of the Bangladesh BGB. He has reported the matter to the local administration.
The incident has caused a tense atmosphere in the border area. Authorities, including the BSF, are expected to take further measures to address the situation.
