Agartala, 25th January 2026:    On the eve of Republic Day, tension gripped Ichailalchhara village under Kadamthala police station after a suspicious electronic device was recovered near the Lalchhara Sub-Centre in Ward No. 6.

Local residents, alarmed by the find, quickly informed the police. Officers from Kadamthala station rushed to the spot and recovered the device, which was later taken to the station for examination. Initial panic spread as the object bore the marking “GPS,” leading many to fear it was a tracking or surveillance tool.

However, Kadamtala OC Jayanta Debnath clarified that there was no cause for alarm. He explained that the device was a Radiosonde, a scientific instrument commonly used by meteorological departments to collect atmospheric data for weather forecasting and research.

Debnath further noted that since the area lies close to the India-Bangladesh border, the device could have originated from either the Tripura Meteorological Department or its counterpart in Bangladesh. Authorities are investigating the matter.

Police assured the public that the incident poses no threat and urged residents not to panic.
