Agartala, 19th February 2026: With the five-year term of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) approaching its conclusion, residents of remote tribal villages under Mungiakami Block have voiced strong dissatisfaction over unfulfilled development promises.
Villagers from No. 11 Maharani-Teliamura constituency—including Nonachhara’s Navjayakami and Dutta Molsom Para—say basic infrastructure remains neglected. Roads, drinking water, electricity, and education facilities continue to be inadequate, leaving communities vulnerable.
During monsoon months, broken roads make travel nearly impossible. Schoolchildren struggle to reach classrooms, while patients face dangerous delays in medical emergencies. The lack of safe drinking water has forced many families to rely on pits or stream water, raising health concerns.
Adding to frustration, locals allege that despite electing Executive Member Komol Koloi from Tipra Motha, visible progress has been absent. While Koloi has developed a private tourism venture, Montang Valley, villagers point out that adjoining roads—used frequently by the EM himself—remain unrepaired.
The grievances came to light during a programme at Navjayakami organized by the Nokhayung Hamkhrai Society, attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma. Villagers demanded urgent action on drinking water, road repairs, electricity, and education.
Speaking to the media, Minister Debbarma admitted shortcomings: “The issues raised by the people will be taken seriously. Despite regular visits by the elected ADC representative, visible steps on development have been lacking.” He assured that if the BJP secures power in the 2026 ADC elections, priority will be given to upgrading roads and essential infrastructure.
