Satnala sets a new benchmark in social reform: Ajanta Roy and Debasish Das redefine the role of educators

Agartala, 22nd February 2026:   In a development that is rapidly drawing attention across the state, the village of Satnala has positioned itself at the forefront of grassroots social reform. At the heart of this transformation stand two educators Ajanta Roy of Satnala HS School and Debasish Das of PM-Shri Churaibari HS School, whose leadership has reshaped the narrative around child marriage from passive concern to active resistance.

Today’s historic pledge to declare Satnala a Child Marriage-Free Village began with a massive rally at 10:30 AM from Satnala Higher Secondary School Field. Students, parents, youth organizations, and community members marched together in a rare display of collective resolve.

The main programme at 11 AM at the Satnala Community Hall was attended by the local SI and MDC, among other dignitaries. In a notable public statement, the MDC praised Roy and Das for demonstrating a level of social leadership that, in his words, “reflects the highest standards of public service and educational responsibility.”

Observers present at the event described the initiative as “a defining example of how educators can move beyond textbooks to transform society.”

Addressing the gathering, Roy spoke with clarity and urgency: “When a student tells us her marriage has been fixed, it is not just an announcement, it is a quiet surrender of a future. As teachers, we refuse to normalize that surrender.”

Das emphasized the deeper moral dimension: “Policies and laws are frameworks. But unless conscience awakens, frameworks remain hollow. Sustainable reform begins when society takes ownership of its own ethics.”

The event also highlighted academic and athletic excellence through the “Pride of Satnala” recognitions, reinforcing a deliberate shift in identity from vulnerability to achievement.

For years, Roy and Das have consistently worked to promote girls’ education, connect students to welfare schemes, organize awareness drives, and build sustained community dialogue against child marriage. What took place today was not a one-day campaign, but the culmination of structured, long-term groundwork.

The programme concluded with a collective oath from villagers affirming zero tolerance toward child marriage and committing to vigilant social accountability.

In a time when social reform often struggles to move beyond rhetoric, Satnala has demonstrated what conviction-driven leadership can achieve.

As conversations extend beyond district boundaries, one message is unmistakable, the model emerging from Satnala is setting standards that many larger institutions aspire to reach.
